Three security forces members were killed in a clash with insurgents on 24 August in the village of Minhanha, Meluco district, following an attack in which two civilians were beheaded.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, residents of Minhanha arrived on foot in Meluco district headquarters, 30km away, and told Zitamar that insurgents had attacked their village and decapitated two people.
Reports suggest that security forces arrived on the scene and engaged the insurgents. In the ensuing exchange of fire, up to three members of the security forces were killed. It is not yet clear if the security forces were Mozambican or part of the Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique.
Several homes were also burnt down in the attack, according to online news service Pinnacle News.
