Between a rock and a hard place on public sector pay

The government faces demands for higher pay just as it is trying to restrict spending on wages

Good afternoon. This week brings news of another threatened strike by public sector workers: doctors are to go on strike again from Monday. The Medical Association of Mozambique paused its industrial action last year pending negotiations with the government, but now their leaders say that most of their demands have not been met. Doctors complain about a lack of equipment in hospitals and delays in receiving their overtime pay, amongst other grievances.
