Good afternoon. There can be little serious doubt that the European Union (EU) will renew its military training mission in Mozambique when the current mission comes to an end in September (see below). However much or little the EU wants to help Mozambique fight the Islamic State-backed insurgency in Cabo Delgado province, the mission is one of strategic importance for them in encouraging Mozambique to reduce its dependence on Russia and China, at a time when the former is keen to continue helping African countries to fight their wars.
