President Daniel Chapo has ordered government ministries to draw up plans to close and merge their subsidiary agencies, as part of his agenda to make government more efficient, Zitamar News has learned.

A memo from the Ministry of Finance sent out to ministries has asked them to provide “information on all the institutions overseen by [your] sector… as well as proposals for the merger or extinction of non-viable institutions, by means of integration within the direct administration of the state”. The memo, dated 26 February, asked for the information to be provided within 15 days of receipt.
