Charities report success after trials giving cash to Mozambicans in need

Unicef and Save the Children are pressing on with further projects distributing cash directly to households in need of aid

Projects giving cash directly to vulnerable people in Mozambique have proved highly effective, according to humanitarian agencies who have trialled the approach in the last five years.

The NGO Save the Children conducted three pilots in 2023 in which cash, coupled with support on nutrition and education, was provided unconditionally to children and households affected by the war in Cabo Delgado province and by Cyclone Freddy in Zambézia province.
