President Joe Biden nominated James Story as the next United States ambassador to Mozambique on Wednesday. Story is a career diplomat who served as ambassador to Venezuela between 2018 and 2023. Previously, he was head of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office for the Western Hemisphere, based in Colombia, and was a senior civilian representative on the American task force in eastern Afghanistan. He speaks Portuguese and spent two years in Mozambique from 2001 working as an economic and political officer to the US embassy. He will replace outgoing ambassador Peter Vrooman.
