The village of Mute in Palma district was invaded yesterday by armed men suspected of being part of the Islamist insurgency in Cabo Delgado. On Tuesday morning, locals were still hiding in surrounding forests as insurgents remained in the village until at least 5am.
Three sources in the town of Palma told Zitamar of the invasion, with one saying it began at midday on Monday. There were no reports of any dead, or houses burned — though a headline on Pinnacle News described the village as being “in flames”.
Some of the villagers walked 15km to Palma town, according to Zitamar’s sources. One said he had spoken to two children who had made the trip.
