Insurgents launch incursion into Nampula province

The attack is the first outside Cabo Delgado since 17 June, when a civilian was beheaded in the village of Lúrio in Nampula

Insurgents crossed the Lúrio river into Nampula province on Friday and burned the village of Kutua in Eráti district.

Around 20 armed men reportedly entered Katua at about 10pm on 2 September and began setting fire to homes, tents, and the local health centre, according to local sources.

Pictures seen by Zitamar reported to be of Katua in the aftermath of the attack show the charred remains of numerous buildings and huts.

This marks the first insurgent attack outside Cabo Delgado since 17 June when a civilian was beheaded in the village of Lúrio in Nampula. Government officials have already acknowledged the attack on Katua, unlike the incident in Lúrio, which the police denied ever happening.
