Insurgents in the far south of the district of Mocímboa da Praia, north-eastern Cabo Delgado, captured around 40 men fishing off the island of Tambuzi on the night of Wednesday, 19 March. The insurgents, also travelling by boat, captured the men at sea.
Multiple sources said that after the capture of the men, the insurgents informed the captain and owner of the vessel transporting them, who a local source named only as Chande, that he and the fishers would be free if they paid MZN35,000 (around $550).
