The official closure of the investigation into the disappearance of journalist Ibraimo Mbaruco in April 2020 merely confirms what has been obvious for years now: nobody is going to be brought to justice over the matter. People familiar with the case will remember that Mbaruco, a journalist with community radio in Cabo Delgado province’s Palma district, went missing shortly after sending a text message saying he was “surrounded by the military”.
