The dismissal of the Tax Authority boss points to the president's waning power

Good afternoon. The dismissal of Amelia Muendane from the leadership of the Tax Authority and Mozambique Customs by the Council of Ministers is a setback for Muendane, but also a setback for her boss, President Filipe Nyusi. Earlier this year, Muendane was said by the media to be on Nyusi’s unofficial shortlist of preferred candidates to be ruling party Frelimo’s candidate in the presidential election. Now she has been given the relatively undesirable job of chairing Mozambique Airports. Her political career may have peaked.
