Good afternoon. If Ossufo Momade, leader of opposition party Renamo, thought that he had extinguished threats to his leadership, the last few days will have forced him to reconsider, in a way that could have a dramatic effect on the course of Mozambican politics.

💥 Islamic State (IS) has claimed to have attacked the villages of Nacoja and Siripa in the Chiúre district of Cabo Delgado province. In two statements published yesterday on social media, IS said its fighters attacked Nacoja on Friday, killing a man and burning more than 40 houses, before moving north to Siripa on Monday, where they burned two churches, a school and over 190 homes. This information has not yet been independently verified but IS also published photos believed to be of the Nacoja attack, showing IS fighters setting fire to homes and beheading a man.
