Solar power brings water supply to Pemba neighbourhood

A solar-powered water supply has brought relief to residents of Paquitequete, many of whom have fled the insurgency

At least 5,000 families in a neighbourhood of the city of Pemba, capital of Cabo Delgado province, are now benefiting from a solar-powered water supply, giving them convenient access to water for the first time.

The project to install the water supply in the historic neighbourhood of Paquitequete, valued at MZN18.5m meticais ($292,000), has received grant funding from the Mozambique LNG Foundation, a development body set up by the group of investors who control the concession to produce gas from the Area 1 offshore gas block off the coast of Cabo Delgado.
