Police were sent again into the streets in large numbers and with mixed agendas. In some areas, demonstrators were allowed to march but in others, especially in the poor suburbs, protesters were intercepted with tear gas and rubber bullets. Disgruntled policemen have also fired live ammunition at people. Unruly groups of protesters burned tyres in the streets and several businesses were looted.

The army was also on the streets but they were not reported to have taken any action against demonstrators.
