Visit would have coincided with the arrival of EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell, whose trip has been cancelled due to a case of covid-19
TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné is visiting Maputo today, following a visit to the Rwandan capital, Kigali, where he met President Paul Kagame and signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on energy projects.
Pouyanné is expected to meet President Filipe Nyusi in Maputo today or tomorrow.
The TotalEnergies CEO’s visit was supposed to coincide with a visit by the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, who was forced to cancel his visit to Maputo after one of his entourage tested positive for covid-19.
The European Union is considering providing financial support for the Rwandan military mission, which is providing security to the districts of Mocímboa da Praia and Palma, where TotalEnergies’ LNG project is currently on hold.
