Venâncio Mondlane, the opposition politician who claims to have won Mozambique’s presidential election last month, has outlined a set of conditions for participating in the dialogue proposed by president Filipe Nyusi to find a way out of the current post-election crisis — starting with dropping legal actions being taken against him by Mozambique’s Attorney General.
In a document delivered to the presidency on Friday, 22 November, Mondlane called for the immediate restoration of his fundamental rights, arguing that legal actions by the Attorney General’s Office — such as freezing his accounts and issuing arrest orders — are politically motivated and impede his participation. He insisted these actions must be annulled for any meaningful dialogue to begin.
