Good afternoon. Once again, Mozambique’s capital ground to a halt today, celebrating Heroes’ Day by “popular decree” announced by Venâncio Mondlane. Barricades reappeared at the city's entrances, though with less intensity than in recent months.

Many public services and businesses shut down as a precaution, and primary schools closed to ensure children’s safety. Public transport stayed off the roads to avoid potential vandalism.

The police presence was strong but notably less brutal than in the past. Still, at least one man — a father of three — was shot dead near the toll booth between Maputo and Matola, as Zitamar News reported this afternoon.
