Good afternoon. Today’s front pages are in agreement over what’s the top story in Mozambique: the country’s men’s football team’s victory over Benin on Saturday at a packed out national stadium in Zimpeto, qualifying Mozambique for the African Nations Cup for the first time since 2010.

It’s somewhat inevitable that the front pages would agree: three of them, Notícias, Domingo, and Desafio, are owned by the same publishing house, while Publico is a pro-Frelimo rag.
But the win has united the nation in a rare moment of optimism, something that was well overdue from the government’s point of view, after months which have been dominated by discontent, largely around the botched introduction of new public sector salaries, leading vital public services to go on strike.
