💥 Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for four attacks in Cabo Delgado province. According to statements published on social media, insurgents attacked the village of Nahuvi in Chiúre district twice, once on 27 February, burning a church and four houses, and again on 28 February, killing a man. Insurgents also burned a church, a school and 19 houses in the village of Muamula, approximately 5km from Nahuvi, on 28 February. IS also claimed to have killed seven members of a local milita near the village of Ntutupue in Ancuabe district on Sunday. In fact, the attack happened on Saturday and the militia was likely the Naparama, local sources told Zitamar News.

Today’s front pages on the streets of Maputo. Notícias’ lead story says that the first phase of electrifying the Maputo-Ressano Garcia train line will begin in the coming days, according to the transport minister. Below follows a story about an outbreak of conjunctivitis in Nampula province; and an update, or non-update, about the “hidden debts” corruption trial in London: Mozambique is still waiting for the verdict. Canal de Moçambique’s front page story is a version of Zitamar Editor-at-Large Fernando Lima’s article on TotalEnergies’ preliminary work on their gas project in Cabo Delgado province. Canal’s headline focuses on the fact that work is ongoing despite the project being officially suspended, and a recent increase in insurgent violence. A second headline notes that Fly Modern Ark has taken over management of state-owned airline LAM.
