According to newspaper O País, the cause of the warning was a song used by Mondlane’s campaign which uses the word “suca” in relation to his opponents, including the main opposition party Renamo, which Mondlane used to represent in parliament. “Suca” simply means “go away”, and cannot seriously be understood as an insult. If O País is correct, the authorities will have to try harder to trip up his campaign. In any case, the song has gone viral, and cannot be got rid of even if Mondlane stops using it.
