Good afternoon. Today brings proof that the poaching of sea creatures in Cabo Delgado province is happening on an industrial scale. Over a tonne of sea cucumbers has been seized in the latest arrest of poachers, together with a sizeable amount of shark fins (see below).

Today’s front pages O País and CanalMoz lead with Mozambique’s first lady, Isaura Nyusi — who is also head of Frelimo’s women’s organisation, OMM — who yesterday said during her speech that the party’s next presidential candidate should not be a “vain profiteer”. Another O País headline mentions Frelimo spokeswoman Ludmila Maguni saying that the party is not aware of Samora Machel junior’s candidacy. Notícias leads with President Filipe Nyusi’s participation in the OMM meeting, in which he highlighted his government’s achievements over the last ten years in favour of women and girls.
